Motivate your Motivation

There are many reasons why lack of motivation can linger. It could be that we’re overwhelmed by the tasks ahead, or feeling lost and wondering what path we’re on, or perhaps we’re just burnt out and need a refresh.

Feeling unmotivated can be such a drain, right? It’s something we all experience at times. Even the most outwardly productive appearing individuals go through it. There’s no one single method to conquering the unmotivated mind, however, there are several things that can be observed in order to get back on track when we stumble.

The first things to bear in mind are our values. They are what drive us, they give us reason and purpose for doing what we do. The areas that ones values cover might be family, friendships, career, leisure, mental wellbeing and physical health. Everybody’s ambitions are different. So remember what is important to you! Not someone else, or what society says! What feeds your drive?

Once we’re in tune with our core values, we can form goals based on these values. Thus breaking down the tasks ahead, and leading the life we wish to.

Sometimes we lose motivation because we’re tired, overworked and losing sight of why we’re doing what we are doing. It’s fundamental to our wellbeing and further progression, to take a break when we need it. Have a change of scenery, step back and have a day off if you can. Do something you enjoy and come back feeling more refreshed, and more motivated.

Motivation can often occur with procrastination on tow. Maybe we’re putting something off because there’s a difficult or dull task ahead, or we’re worried about failure. Remembering our values is key in this instance. Break the tasks down into small, manageable smart goals. (specific measurable achievable realistic time-bound)

We all have different levels of motivation, which will rise up and down. Try not to be too hard on yourself. Sometimes it’s enough to complete just one item on the list of ‘to do’s’.

There will be good days and bad days. Set yourself things to look forward to, for the short term and long term. This will help to give you the energy for completing some of the more challenging tasks.

And don’t forget to be kind to yourself. We aren’t superhuman.

Stay wavy!
